Tetrasodium EDTA is a white solid, very soluble in water and forming a basic solution. Prepared from ethylenediamine, formaldehyde, and sodium cyanide in basic solution, or from ethylenediamine and sodium chloroacetate, EDTA is a strong complexing and chelating agent.
