PCBN material feature:

PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic boron nitride) as the excellent supplement of PCD diamond material, is the second hardest material in the world. It is considerably harder than the oxide, nitride and carbide ceramics which are commonly used for abrasive applications. Recently, the solid PCBN came out and has been proved to get more higher toughness and longer tool life, due to its perfect production process.

PCBN cutting tool application:

The principal application areas for PCBN cutting tools are rough-and finish-machining of hardened steels greater than 45 HRC, grey cast irons and hard cast irons as well as finish turning of sintered irons and powder metallurgy components. Many other applications are reported in the machining science literature such as superalloy turning, that is a relatively small but growing application area. In essence, any ferrous workpiece material which is either abrasive or hard is a potential application area for PCBN cutting tools.

PCBN cutting tool is widely used to machine a wide variety of hard and/or abrasive ferrous workpiece materials. PCBN is chemically inert up to high temperatures and unlike PCD, therefore, has a relatively low chemical reaction with iron in ferrous workpiece materials. Typical components machined with PCBN are brake discs, engine blocks, engine cylinder liners, brake drums, flywheels, valve seats/guides, machine parts, gears, mould and die parts etc.

 

PCBN cutting tool types:

Generally, the PCBN cutting tools include two kinds of types: PCBN inserts and PCBN rotating tools. The PCBN inserts include the ISO standard and no-standard cutting inserts. The PCBN rotating tools include PCBN reamers, PCBN milling cutters and PCBN drills. All of these PCBN tools are used to meet the high accuracy and high efficiently demand for turning, milling, boring and drilling application.
