Rust Causes of 301 Stainless Steel

1. There are chlorine ions in the environment. Chlorine ions are widely present in salt, sweat trace, sea water, sea breeze, soil and so on. The corrosion of stainless steel is very fast in the presence of chloride ions included environment; even faster than that of ordinary low carbon steel. Therefore, the using environment of stainless steel has requirements that it should be wiped regularly and dust removed. So it should be kept clean and dry.

2. The alloy has no solution treatment. The alloying elements are not incorporated into the matrix and the alloy elements are very low in the matrix. It has poor corrosion resistance.

3. This kind of material without titanium and niobium has inherent intergranular corrosion tendency. Adding titanium and niobium with a stable treatment can reduce intergranular corrosion.
